Michael Bublé Shares How Fatherhood Has Redefined His Life

E! News/August 25, 2016

Michael Bublé once sang the “best is yet to come,” but it seems some of life’s best moments are happening right now.

To start, he debuted his first women’s fragrance, By Invitation, this week. Described as “love in a bottle,” the perfume might initially seem like an out-of-place project for the big band crooner, but Michael soon realized the perfume process wasn’t too far from his musical roots.

“I didn’t want to take it on. I really didn’t,” he told E! News. However, after further explanation from his team, Michael realized he was ready to step out of his comfort zone and attempt a new challenge. “We create music through notes and it’s the same in fragrance, so I found it fascinating, challenging, hard, time-consuming and really fulfilling.”

But, is his wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, a fan of the new scent? “Let me tell you—if she hadn’t been, we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” he said. Happy wife, happy life as they say!

After five years of marriage, Bublé still visibly has stars in his eyes when discussing his right-hand woman. “I love her sense of style and I’m so blessed because I love her,” he gushed to E! News. “We beat the Hollywood average by four and a half years.”

In their most recent year as husband and wife, Michael and his Argentine leading lady welcomed their second child, a son named Elias.

“I think being a dad gives you perspective. I think really being a parent is a massive blessing,” he explained. “It’s allowed me to understand deeply that what I do for a living—creating music and art and getting to be a part of a fragrance or a movie—is my job. It isn’t what defines me. What defines me is I’m Noah and Eli’s dad.”

With a musical father, are Noah and Elias set for careers behind a mic? “I think one of them is going to grow up to be Spiderman,” he joked. “If they want to be ballet dancers or athletes or stay-at-home dads, whatever they do, I just love them.”

In between Spiderman reruns and scent tests, the four-time Grammy winner faced his own musical hurdle when he had to undergo vocal chord surgery just two months ago. As he recalled for E! News, the “Nobody But Me” singer knew the exact moment something had gone wrong with his voice when he was in the studio finishing a recording with Meghan Trainor. Fortunately, Bublé was relieved to fully recover and—from the sound of the first single off his upcoming ninth studio album—he is sounding better than ever.

As a man who tries to live life in the moment, it seems there still are few moments more precious than the ones he gets to spend out of the studio and with his family. With his and his son’s birthdays approaching, all the singer can ask for is just to be with the three people he holds dearest. “I just want to be with them. I leave a lot, so when I can be there with them, that’s my true happiness,” he shared with E! News.

After all, his family is his grounding force. “When I’m nervous and I’m insecure and I’m scared of challenging myself or leaving my comfort zone, [fatherhood] just gives me context and allows me to understand what’s important.”
